A general contractor is a professional who manages and oversees construction projects. They are responsible for hiring subcontractors, obtaining permits where necessary, managing the project timeline, and ensuring that the project is completed on time and within budget. We started in 1995 in Ruidoso, NM and started projects in Texas in 1999. We're so happy to be providing remodeling services in the Highland Lake areas of Lakeway and Bee Cave, Spicewood, Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay, TX.

No, the state of Texas does not require contractors to be licensed. Mike previously held a  New Mexico Residential (GB-02) Contractor License under number 254055.

Five Star Remodeling is able to install and repair all of these.  (We do not install or repair HVAC.)

Yes, we carry general liability (GL) insurance and commercial auto.  Insurance certificates provided upon request. 

Typically we can get out to your project site in 1-5 days. These appointments are generally on Saturday between 1-3pm. 

You're going meet with our owner, Mike Fennell.

Generally, we hold prices for 30 days. For projects scheduled several months out, a volatile market may require a price adjustment for raw materials. Should this be necessary we'll discuss how that affects your project and what steps we can take to mitigate your exposure. 

We do offer financing – we partner with Acorn Finance 

We aim to leave the job site cleaner than when we arrived. Since we know our work can be dirty we do several things to keep it to a minimum. We tarp our work area, broom sweep and magnetic broom sweep the work area to get any possible debris. A professional post construction clean is provided.

With any remodeling project, you can’t see everything until exposed. We over-communicate every exception we see and involve you in the process and solution. Any changes are discussed prior and agreed upon with a change order prior to us taking any action. 

Every project is so different. We just don’t know how much should be planned for.  If you're feeing anxious about your project costs please let us know and we can work together on where or what alterations could be made. 

Sometimes we do but those few subcontractors we use have worked with Five Star Remodeling for many years. They know the quality we expect in our jobs. Five Star Remodeling oversees every aspect of the project and reviews work by subs.

We typically do not to bring samples to the estimate appointment.  

It is not necessary to get a permit for every remodeling project. It's only required for structural jobs, i.e. a load bearing wall or a new electrical run. Repairs and replacements are not required to get a permit.

Yes, in Texas you can and it's recommended you do. This keeps you in control of the permit and your project, regardless of who's doing the work. We're happy to walk you through how to get it. 

All residential interior and exterior projects, except full slab or roofs.  

Non-refundable deposit of 35% of the estimate. This secures and holds your project on our calendar. The deposit is applied to your project.  

In Texas, if lead paint is discovered it must be remediated by a certified lead paint removal company.  This is billed separately by the removal company. 

Overhead, quality of employees, materials and more all are factors in an estimate.
Get at least 3 estimates. Drop the lowest then read reviews or ask to speak w/ previous clients on the middle and highest estimate.
